Stall Feature of the Month!

Stall Feature of the Month!

Olivia and Cynthia are two creative friends who often share a Suitcase Rummage stall at our Canberra Rummage! Neither of them can watch TV without a project in their hands. And, if that project is made from recycled materials they find the creation even more satisfying. Ultimately, they just love being creative! And we think they’re gosh darn good at it.

Who are some other artists, crafters, creatives that you love? And why?

We love hanging out with our knitting friends, bouncing ideas off each other and sharing our successes and failures. There are so many inspiring artists: Ann Wood with her soft sculptures www.annwoodhandmade.com is always a favourite, as well as Canberra sculptor Linda Davy www.linda.davy.id.au/. Plus two incredibly talented Melbourne friends, Carly Altree-Williams www.carlyaltreewilliams.com/ and the brilliant painter Ben Guy funbeard.blogspot.com.au/.

What excites you?

We love music festivals and take our knitting along with us to our favourite festivals. Last year Olivia made a felted tree for the National Folk Festival. We both get excited for a good round of op-shopping or rummaging.

We think of a rummage stall as a mini shopfront, how do you make your rummage stall your own?

We love how easy it is to set up a rummage stall without anything too fancy. We’ve done it a couple of times now and are putting more thought into our layout. A colourful homemade quilt is nice, especially to lay out Cynthia’s pottery.  Olivia recently upgraded her suitcase by making a little cardboard shelving unit to display smaller items. We think of it as a mini exhibition and just enjoy showing our work and talking with people about it.

Can you offer any tips on setting up a rummage stall?

Don’t worry too much, just come along and have a go! It’s nice to have some business cards (even home made) in case people want to follow up with you later.

What is the next step for you? What does the future hold?

We don’t know exactly but we will always keep making things and wanting to share them with people. Oh, and Olivia is learning to play the fiddle!

What’s your favourite place or thing to do in your city?

We both enjoy the air and views up on Mt Majura or walking around the lake. Canberra has so many interesting markets now and there also seems to be of new places to eat opening constantly. Though, to be honest, we are also homebodies and like our couch time making more stuff!

Where can we find, and follow you? (I.e. website, Instagram, facebook, etsy, markets etc.)

What do you like about attending Suitcase Rummage?

It’s always a nice few hours, with friends and family coming by to say hello and to see what we’ve been making. We also have lots of friendly people stopping to chat and of course we keep each other company. We also enjoy getting on with our knitting while we sit on the stall.
