Stall Feature of the Month!

Stall Feature of the Month!

Introducing Motley! … We caught up with one half of the artistic sister duo, Motley, a delightful illustration and prints business. We talked all things art and rummages; and Beth shared some of her secret pasta places and cow sitings with us! What more could you ask for?

Can you tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do? Motley is a huge delightful mess of artworks with no consistency or direction. We started Motley as two sisters creating what we thought was cool stuff and then thought our mum makes cool stuff too so why not get together and try and sell it?

Why do you do what you do? We couldn’t find anywhere to sell our art without having to make it
expensive or suit a particular shop or website’s style – so we created our own space where we can share our artwork and if people like it, great, if they don’t, that’s cool too… but you should totally like it and buy it –
please and thank you.

Who are some other artists, crafters, creatives that you love? And why? Check out @designbyfish on instragram – her work is super cute, especially the giraffes!

What excites you? We all have an unnatural reaction to really good food. We were in Toowoomba recently and there is a café there that is seriously life changing. Valetta – the chorizo parpadelle is to die and we’ve been trying to recreate it ever since. It also got us back on the Bundy ginge (Bundaberg Ginger Beer).

We think of a rummage stall as a mini shopfront, how do you make your rummage stall your own? Motley is big on butter yellow, it’s in our logo (and our arteries) so we got a big butter yellow blanket to lay our artworks on. We make sure any shy walkers-by feel comfortable getting in and having a rummage.

Can you offer any tips on setting up a rummage stall? It’s such a friendly space – we got some really good intel from serial stall-holders on which rummages have the most foot traffic!

What do you like about attending Suitcase Rummage? Selling the arts, making the monies and meeting the peoples!

What’s your favourite place or thing to do in your city? We can’t tell you the place that we like because then you’d all go there! Second-best place would be to get out of the city and head to Montville
with the cute little shops and cows.
