A Little Rant on Reusables!

A Little Rant on Reusables!

At Suitcase Rummage we are always looking for ways to make the day less damaging to the planet. When hosting an event in a public space with lots of people there’s always going to be some rubbish. It’s (sadly) unavoidable. We’re trying to spread the word of reusables and make 2020 the year of small (and big) changes! Starting with our markets!

We understand that all our Rummagers need to eat and hydrate throughout the day and sometimes we all get too busy the night before and have trouble planning what to take for the day. Over the years we’ve seen the amount of rubbish left at our Rummage’s increase and that can be pretty disheartening. Even as staff we forget our reusable coffee cup or need single use cutlery to eat a packaged lunch. We’re not perfect, we trip up and forget things, we understand that others do too.

This year however, given everything that’s happening to the environment we want to hold ourselves to account a bit more. As well as having a large bottle of sunscreen to share we are decking our staff suitcase out with reusable cups, straws and cutlery and remembering our water bottles!

We really hope you can plan to do the same! So we are giving you all a bit of incentive…

At our next Rummage (in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney or Canberra) show us how you made the day plastic/waste free. Any effort is a win as far as we’re concerned! A selfie with your reusable cup or water bottle is a big tick from us or go above and beyond with a packed lunch from home or bring a container to put a store bought lunch in. It’s these little steps that make all the difference.

We’ll be watching Instagram closely in the coming weekends and one person will be gifted a free Rummage stall (valid for 3 months) for their contribution to making the day just that little bit kinder on mother nature. Just use the hashtag to participate #suitcaserummage and tag @suitcasrummages so we don’t miss the post!

And, if you need a few tips and tricks to transition to more reusabales, we’ve compiled a little list of our favourites below!

Lunch boxes! There’s the simple divider, stainless steel bento boxes and more robust versions if you need! Also, anything from Green Kitchen is sure to satisfy your style and sustainability needs! Keepcup have got you sorted for reusable coffee and tea cups, as well as RCup which is made from disposable coffee cups. We’re also big fans of Klean Kanteen for all your water bottle needs (followed closely by these lovely looking glass and steel ladies!). Bamboo cutlery and plastic free straws a must have in any backpack or tote!
