Stall Feature of the Month!

Stall Feature of the Month!

We had a delightful little chat with Melanie from Lena Loved Vintage. If you’ve ever attended a Rummage in Melbourne, chances are that you’ve fallen in love with one of her pieces. We so admire her careful curation and consideration of all the pieces she packs into her suitcases! It was so nice of her to answer our questions and we hope you enjoy!

Can you tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do? My name is Melanie and I am the founder of Lena Loved Vintage, my preloved and vintage label. I’m a graphic designer four days a week and a vintage hunter, collector and lover the other three days a week.

Why do you do what you do? Lena Loved Vintage is my preloved and vintage label named after my late Nan and no.1 girl boss, Lena.  My Nan and I both shared a great love for quality fashion and shared this passion regularly on weekend op shopping dates together. I launched Lena Loved Vintage in November 2016 with the goal to spread the love my Nan and I had for finding treasured, preloved and vintage fashion.

What excites you? I love anything that involves being around people – new friends or old friends, I’m an extroverted creative and find motivation and ideas whilst around others. Oh, and also anything purple excites me, it’s my favourite colour and a real obsession if you ask my friends!

Who are some other artists, crafters, creatives that you love? And why? Some of my favourite artists are Yayoi Kusuma, Henri Matisse and Monet. I love their use of colour, texture and shape.

We think of a rummage stall as a mini shopfront, how do you make your rummage stall your own? Yes, I agree, it’s about making a unique presence at the market that excites the market goers and draws them to your mini shop front. I like to showcase all the colours, textures and quality clothing I have available at Lena Loved Vintage.

Can you offer any tips on setting up a rummage stall? Don’t bring too much, be aware of the size of your mini stall and allow room for market goers to feel comfortable enough to get inside each suitcase and rummage their heart out. Also consider how you can make your stall stand out and be made exciting for the market goers – think outside the box (or suitcase) and get creative! But within the rules of the market as this is what makes it so special and unique.

What do you like about attending Suitcase Rummage? The people you meet; the patrons, the stall holders and organisers behind the market. Markets are great places to sell your goods but even richer than that opportunity is the chance to meet a new friend, hear an awesome story from a stranger, or learn about something you’d never imagined. I once spoke to and made friends with a lovely lady who got the chance to go to a festival in the 70s and see both Jimi Hendrix and The Doors play. I love those random conversations.

What is the next step for you? What does the future hold? I am looking forward to committing to 2-3 markets a month from June onwards with Lena Loved Vintage. Hopefully this time next year, and then 3 years, and 5 years from now, I will continue to have a healthy growing brand that my Nan would be proud of.

What’s your favourite place or thing to do in your city? One of my favourite things to do when not sourcing local preloved and vintage items is taking mine and my boyfriend’s cavoodle, Hendrix, for a walk at the local dog park. Nothing beats his happy smile and a good old walk outdoors.

Where we can we find and follow you? Lena Loved Vintage can be found both on Instagram and Facebook at @lenalovedvintage and on our website
